Sports Massage

Sports & Remedial Massage Therapy is beneficial not only for sports people but anyone who is suffering from muscular aches and pains. It is used to reduce muscular tension, rehabilitate soft tissue injuries, improve flexibility and address postural imbalance.

The massage treatment is ideal for anyone participating in sport at any level from the dedicated athlete to the occasional runner as it helps to promote faster recovery from injury, makes training more effective and contributes to better performances.

Sports Massage is extremely useful in the rehabilitation process from strains or sprains following the acute phase. The treatment encourages faster recovery and helps to closely monitor injured tissue, slowly introducing strengthening, mobilisation, and stretching exercises to restore normal soft tissue functionality.

Remedial massage is used in many ways; it is used in treatment for muscular tension, occupational injuries from work, DIY, gardening or from postural problems from sitting in front of a computer all day.

A variety of techniques are used to manipulate and rehabilitate the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) The following are some of the conditions that can be treated:

  • Stiff and aching muscles
  • Sports injuries (Sprains, Strains)
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Muscular tension
  • Adhesions in soft tissue
  • Postural Imbalance
  • Chronic Back ache / Neck ache
  • Trigger Points

The techniques include deep tissue massage, stretching (MET), soft tissue release, friction and neuromuscular technique and more. They are used on their own or in combination to treat a range of different conditions. Some warm up and flush the muscle tissue prior to using other techniques; others work with the body’s neuromuscular system to improve flexibility.
